The main barriers to inclusive education: lack of political will and fear to change

Why do we not yet have inclusive education? Which are the main barriers in society making it difficult to have fully inclusive educational settings in Europe? These questions were debated during the EASPD annual conference “Inclusive teaching programmes: Let’s develop it together!” from 22 to 23 October 2015. Looking at the state of play with regard to the implementation of article 24 of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD), the EASPD conference showed practical examples on how to make education more inclusive.

National seminar in Slovenia

Introduction

The School of Business and Commerce Celje in cooperation with Education, Work and Care Centre Draga and the Social Protection Institute of the Republic of Slovenia organized the National Seminar (panel discussion) on the topic of Inclusion of persons with special needs in the vocational education system and employment.

National seminar in Norway

Introduction

The planning of the seminar started in May 2014, to be sure we could combine it with another national seminar for all the User organizations in the disability field in Norway. This is an annually seminar arranged by Statped. In Norway long distances and difficult communications force us to take such practical considerations, especially when we want many participants.

Stakeholder forum in Macedonia

  INTRODUCTION

 

Within the European project INVESTT, the Republic Center for Support of  Persons with Intellectual Disability – PORAKA, in cooperation with EASPD - European Association of Service Providers for Persons with Disabilities and the Center for training, education and care – DRAGA from Slovenia, organizes one-day event – forum on the topic: “Vocational Educational Training and Employment of Persons with Disabilities”.

Stakeholder forum in Ireland

On 16th September 2015, the National Federation organised a 1 day information briefing - hosting two international speakers, and hearing from Irish contributors in relation to the topics of individualised funding, and inclusive approaches to vocational and post-secondary education and training.  The event took place in the Ashling hotel in Dublin.

The 1-day information briefing provided an opportunity for those working in the disability and education sectors to network, share information and hear from a range of experts on these themes.

Unesco - Education for all 2000-2015

The UNESCO Global Monitoring Report – Education for All 2000-2015: Achievements and Challenges – provides a complete assessment of progress since 2000 towards the target date for reaching the Dakar Framework’s goals.

It takes stock of whether the world achieved the EFA goals and stakeholders upheld their commitments. It explains possible determinants of the pace of progress.

Finally, it identifies key lessons for shaping the post-2015 global education agenda.

INVESTT, the Slovenian way

The start of 2015 proved a very busy period at Celje School of Economics as we were planning a national seminar on January 22. Our aims were to support the discussion among stakeholders on the subject of inclusive vocational education and the transition of adults with special needs to the labour market, create an opportunity to discuss the critical issues directly with relevant authorities as well as present INVESTT project and models of good practice that have resulted from it. The seminar was attended by 80 participants.

Reports from internships in Austria

Mona, 22 years old

On April 27th my internship in the home for elderly „F.“ in S., Austria, started.

I am there from Monday to Wednesday.

My work starts at 8.00 am and ends at 5 pm.

The internship is at the moment limited to the animation-area. The tasks I´m doing are playing games with the inhabitants, doing gymnastics with them, having conversations and going for a walk.
